She was born July 5, 1940 at Parkersburg, WV, the daughter of the late Franklin Dale “Jim” and Mary Elizabeth Heater Spears. Nancy was a postmaster with the U.S. Postal Service for 32 years before her retirement. She was a member of Fraternal Order of Moose, Harrisville. She had been a volunteer and instrumental in starting the Ritchie County Emergency Services. She was a member of Camden Ave., Church of Christ.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Van Martin Putnam; children, Mary Louise Foster (Larry) of Petroleum, Dale Martin Putnam of Lubeck, Gale Marvin Putnam (Char) of Petroleum, Kimberly Diane Echard (Raymond) of Walker, Tammy Dawn Higgins (Larry) of Petroleum and Gregory Van Putnam (Brandy Sommerville) of Hartford, WV; seventy two grandchildren and great grandchildren and sister, Myrtle Metz of Parkersburg.
She was preceded in death by brother Franklin Dale Spears, Jr. and a grandson, Gale Thomas Putnam.
A memorial service will be held to honor Nancy who graciously donated her body to WVU School of Medicine, 3 PM, Thursday, April 26, 2018 at the Smithville Community Bldg. Covered dish dinner will follow. Raiguel Funeral Home assisted the family.
